To showcase the opening of Macy's (The World's Largest Store) and its million square feet of retail space at the start of the holiday season, Macy's decided to put on a parade in New York on Thanksgiving morning. Despite being thrown on Thanksgiving, the Macy's parade was actually about Christmas. Macy's threw their "Christmas Parade" to encourage shoppers to buy from them for the holiday season. The first Macy's Parade was held on the morning of November 27 1924. Over the years, Macy's has continued this tradition, adding more floats by the year making this a truly loved event all around the world.

On July 21, 1853 it was decided by the American government to set aside 750 acres of land central to Manhattan Island to create America's first major landscaped public park that they would soon call "Central Park." In 1858 there was a design competition for Central Park that was won by "Frederick Law Olmsted and Calvert Vaux." Up until this day, Central Park has been filled with many different attractions and arts and is now recognised by people all over the world.
